My name is Katherine and I’m a food loving, marathon running, yoga posing, cocktail and beer sipping, Ina Garten obsessed 25 year old law school graduate living in Los Angeles. Welcome to Left Coast Contessa!
I started Left Coast Contessa in January of 2010 as a way to escape the perils of my first year of law school, celebrate my love for food and chronicle my attempt to change my lifestyle and lose weight.
I started cooking on my own in May 2009 in Boston. I was living on my own for the first time after graduating from Simmons College and I had never had cooked for myself before. In August 2009 I moved to LA to attend UCLA Law. Moving to LA completely changed my life in so many ways. I love Boston, as you can see here, here, here, here, and here but I needed a change of scenery. I still am an east coast girl at heart but with a California influence.
In May 2012 I graduated from UCLA Law and in July 2012 I took the California Bar Exam. I’m currently looking for work, awaiting bar results, and enjoying my unemployment in the best city in the world.
Over the years this blog has evolved in many ways. When I first started writing Left Coast Contessa I was focused on staying accountable to my healthy lifestyle and considered myself a healthy living blogger. I lost 20 lbs over a year and have been in maintenance mode since. Over time the focus of this blog has shifted. Now I aim to write about food, restaurants, working out and my life as a former east coaster and prepster in Los Angeles. I no longer consider myself a healthy living blogger and I aim to present more varied content. I will always write about food (because I love it so) but hopefully you will enjoy the ways my content evolves as I explore this new chapter in my life.
Left Coast Contessa chronicles my exploits in LA: eating well, drinking well, living an east coast meets left coast lifestyle and being young in Los Angeles!
Hi – how are you? Can you put up a picture of your law school family? maybe eating some food. Thanks!

There are no pics of the family eating! hmmmm. We need to fix this.
that’s very surprising….we eat together like six out of seven days in the week
Hi! I found your blog because I also ran the Santa Monica 5000 this morning and saw that you had posted about it on twitter. How fun to find a fellow LA healthy living blogger!
Yay for LA bloggers 🙂 hope you’re enjoying the city!! My friend just finished her law degree @ ucla 🙂
Hi there,
I just found your blog. I’m based in Orange County, not too far from you. I’m glad you are enjoying L.A., I spend some weekends there just doing shopping and dining.
Good luck on law school, I work with a few lawyers in our in-house legal department and they are quite an interesting group.
Go Bruins….I really wanted to go to college there but opted to go to San Diego State University instead.
See you around in the blog world
~ Lea
Loved meeting you today!!!!!! Adding you to my reader now… 🙂
By the way, my cousin (slash top-five-favorite-people-in-the-universe) went through the Library Science Grad program at Simmons. Visited her there and it is simply gorgeous! I loved Boston and hope to go again soon……if only to just sit in the Isabella Gardner Museum for hours on end 🙂
Hey girl! I saw your blog under the comments section of Fitnessista’s blog. I live in LA as well and am excited to follow another LA healthy living blogger!
